Weeping Persimmon

Diospyros virginiana ‘Scioto Weeping’

This Weeping Persimmon is so new and rare that we don’t even have a picture of a mature specimen! Reported to be more cold hardy and easier to grow than the more readily available and decidedly difficult (in our area, at least) Magic Fountain weeping persimmon. With gracefully cascading branches and tantalizing orange fruit, this variety of persimmon can be enjoyed by humans and wildlife alike.

Conditions: Full sun to partial shade; adaptable, dry to moist soil
Size: 20′ tall
Zone: 4b – 9
Wildlife Value: Flowers attract a variety of bees; fruit is eaten by many birds and mammals; fruit is edible for humans
