Prairie Dropseed
Sporobolus heterolepis
Prairie Dropseed is a gardener’s dream ornamental grass. With its fine textured foliage, tidy mounding habit, and good behavior, this plant is perfect for mixing with other showy perennials in hot, dry, sunny beds. Airy flowers and seed heads rise high above the foliage in late summer, adding elegance (and an interesting coriander-like fragrance) to the garden.
Conditions: Full sun; dry to medium soil
Size: 2′ – 3′ tall
Zone: 3 – 9
Wildlife Value: Seeds eaten by sparrows and other small birds; provides cover for small wildlife.
