Yellow Coneflower

Echinacea paradoxa

Yellow coneflower enlivens any yard with its cheery yellow flowers, bumblebee and butterfly pollinators, and autumn goldfinch visitors. It is a perfect compliment to its cousin, the purple coneflower, and performs well in similarly dry sunny spots. The name ‘paradoxa’ comes from its unusual flower color – all other members of the Echinacea genus are shades of purple and pink.

Conditions: Full sun; dry to medium soil
Size: 2′ – 3′ tall
Zone: 5 – 8
Wildlife Value: Flowers attract bumblebees and butterflies; seeds provide important fall and winter food for birds like goldfinches
