Variegated Mountain Silverbell

Halesia tetraptera ‘Silver Splash’

Of all the truly spectacular spring flowering native trees, Mountain Silverbell just might be the most underappreciated. The typical species boasts thousands of dazzling white gum-drop like flowers which alone are enough reason to grow this attractive small specimen. ‘Silver Splash’ is a rare variegated selection with leaves covered by irregular white streaks and blotches that keep the party going long after the flowers fade. Although this species grows very well in full, it’s also useful under the high shade of tall pines and oaks.

Limited availability of this uncommon selection.

Conditions: Full sun to part shade; medium to moist soil
Size: 30′ tall
Zone: 4 – 9
Wildlife Value: Flowers attract bumblebees and other long-tongued bees
