Variegated Coastal Doghobble

Leucothoe axillaris ‘Dodd’s Variegated’

When we need a native broad leaf evergreen, we often turn to Doghobble. ‘Dodd’s Variegated’ is a shade tolerant shrub whose new growth emerges in shades of pink along with delicate urn shaped white flowers. As it matures, leaves transform to mottled and flecked shades of creamy white and green, and finally in the fall and through winter the foliage darkens to shades of burgundy and purple.

Conditions: Part sun to full shade; average to moist soil
Size: 4′ tall, 6′ spread

Wildlife Value: Flowers support native pollinators; provides cover for birds and small mammals
