Switchgrass
Panicum virgatum ‘Shenandoah’
‘Shenandoah’ Switchgrass is like watching a warm summer sunset. Initially, leaves emerge blue-green, but they rapidly turn a stunning shade of burgundy-red by late June. The leaves turn yellow-orange in the fall, and fade to a tan-beige in winter. In the summer, feathery, reddish-pink flower panicles drift over the foliage like wispy clouds. ‘Shenandoah’ features the best deep red foliage of all the Panicum cultivars. Native Switchgrass is known for its sturdy, columnar form, making it a perfect addition to any prairies, meadows, perennial borders or naturalized areas.
