Smooth Hydrangea

Hydrangea arborescens ‘Haas Halo’

This sensational selection of Smooth Hydrangea was found by Rick Ray, a former horticulture professor at Delaware Valley College. Now we know what you’re thinking . . . but ‘Haas Halo’ was actually named for Joan Haas, who is not related to Stoneleigh’s Haas family. All the same, we can’t help but think the name has a wonderful ring to it. ‘Haas Halo’ performs best in part shade where its massive 12″ – 14″ lace cap flowers are often completely swarmed by pollinators. This is not only of the finest smooth hydrangeas we grow in the garden, but one of the best native shrubs period.

Conditions: Shade to full sun; moist to average soil
Size: 3′ – 5′ tall and wide
Zone: 3 – 9
Wildlife Value: A nectar and pollen source for numerous bees, wasps, flies, and beetles; hydrangea sphinx moth feeds on the leaves
