Small Yellow False Indigo

Baptisia tinctoria

This long-lived perennial species is a remarkable part of our local flora, though unfortunately rarely offered in nurseries. Clover-like leaves contrast with dainty yellow flowers in a low shrubby form. The distinctive texture of the foliage works well in a mixed perennial bed. Cheery blooms arrive in May or June and well-defined seed pods continue interest throughout the winter.
