Orange Azalea
Rhododendron austrinum ‘Earl’s Gold’
Discovered by Earl Sommerville of Marietta, Georgia, ‘Earl’s Gold’ is a spectacular selection of an already spectacular species. In early summer, orange-gold colored flowers open in large clusters, creating a striking display of unique color in the dappled shade of summer. Add in the delightful aroma of these blooms and it seems like this plant is just trying to show off. Give this shrub the acidic, well-draining soils it desires and its annual fragrant fanfare will be as good as gold.
