Eastern Bluestar

Amsonia tabernaemontana var. salicifolia

Description

Eastern Bluestar, also known as Willowleaf Bluestar, is truly a perennial for all seasons. Its willow-like foliage emerges in spring to frame delightful starry blue flower clusters. In summer it takes on its full form, tricking even the most educated eye into thinking it is an attractive mounded shrub. But in fall, Eastern bluestar is unmistakable, displaying some of the most striking fall color of any perennial, turning brilliant shades of yellow, gold, and bronze. If you are lucky, you’ll see its delicate foliage holding on through the winter, contrasting beautifully with the snowfall.
