Dwarf Fothergilla

Fothergilla gardenii ‘Suzanne’

‘Suzanne’ Dwarf Fothergilla is a truly tiny shrub, maxing out at only 2.5 feet tall. But even with its diminutive size, it packs a big punch. Unique, bottlebrush-like flowers emerge in spring, creating a fuzzy and fragrant display before its matte green leaves begin to expand. When autumn arrives, this shrub erupts in a fiery riot of reds, oranges, and yellows, putting on one of the most spectacular displays of fall color in the garden. ‘Suzanne’ is a selection that is more tolerant of dry and shady conditions compared to other offerings, so there no reason it can’t find a home in your garden.

Conditions: Full sun to part shade; medium to moist soil
Size: 2′ – 2.5′ tall, 2′ – 3′ spread
Zone: 5 – 8
Wildlife Value: Flowers attract butterflies
