Dwarf Black Chokeberry
Aronia melanocarpa ‘UCONNAM012’ Ground Hug®
Few plants can check as many boxes as ‘Ground Hug’ Black Chokeberry. Appropriately named, it loves all types of soil and hovers barely a foot above the ground. This tough ground cover is drought and salt tolerant and not a favorite of deer. Darling white flowers arrive in spring, followed by black berries. Its glossy dense foliage leaves no room for weeds and splashes the ground with red and orange in the fall. As if there wasn’t enough to love, it doesn’t even need to be pruned.
