Cumberland Azalea

Rhododendron cumberlandense

Most native azaleas are spring bloomers, but Cumberland Azalea gives us a stunning summer show. Varying from shades of pink to orange to red, the large blooms are set against glossy, deep green leaves. This plant is happiest with a little protection from afternoon sun so consider adding it to a woodland edge or an east-facing hedge or screen.

Conditions: Part sun to part shade; moist, well drained soil
Size: 4′ tall, 3′ spread
Zone: 4 – 7
Wildlife Value: Flowers attract butterflies
