Alabama Snow Wreath

Neviusia alabamensis

A rare and fascinating slowly suckering shrub native to southeastern US, though hardy and thriving at Stoneleigh. This plant’s flowers have no petals; instead, they are clusters of long, white, showy stamens along arching stems. No seedlings of this plant have ever been found in the wild, leading botanists to assume that all wild specimens are actually suckers from a single plant. How cool is that?

Conditions: Full sun (for best flowering) to full shade; heavy clay to well-drained soil
Size: 3′ – 6′ height; 3′ – 6′ spread
Zone: 5 – 8
Wildlife Value: Wildlife habitat for birds and mammals
