Kyle Rose
Director of Land Protection
Kyle heads up the land protection program at Natural Lands, managing a team of people who do the day-to-day work of saving open space.
Prior to joining Natural Lands, Kyle was the land stewardship and ecology manager for Longwood Gardens. His team there focused on the stewardship and research of Longwood’s natural areas.
Prior to that, Kyle worked for the New Mexico State Land Office leading an interdisciplinary team dedicated to restoring and conserving the nine million acres of state trust land leased for commercial, oil and gas, agricultural, conservation, and renewable energy uses. As a trained forester, Kyle also worked as the forestry program coordinator and an assistant professor of forestry at New Mexico Highlands University.
Kyle was born and raised in Chester County, PA. “My family had a small cottage just north of the Delaware border growing up. I would spend time in the nearby woods with my cousin playing in the creek and building houses out of sticks, moss, and mica. I remember how big and wild the woods felt back then even though I now know that we were playing in an area not more than five acres. I do not know who owned those woods, but access to them had a lasting impact on me personally and professionally.”
Kyle holds a BS in English from Grove City College, an MS in Forestry from Michigan Technological University, and a Ph.D. in Forest Biology from Purdue University.
