The 126-acre Willisbrook Preserve includes just over 20 acres of the Willistown Serpentine Barrens, a rare ecosystem unique to this area. These barrens support a diverse variety of plants, including serpentine aster, round-leafed fame flower, and warm-season grasses.

History
The serpentine barrens were likely used by Native American hunters in the pre-European era. The fire-facilitating vegetation of the barrens would have made them an ideal spot for using fire to drive game towards waiting hunters. The preserve was donated to Natural Lands Trust starting in 1961, and it holds special significance as the first property that NLT received through donation.
