Join staff from Natural Lands Trust and Bartram’s Garden for an engaging program focused on managing and enhancing native meadows in the urban environment. You will learn about the diverse flora and fauna of native meadows, the benefits they offer for people and wildlife, as well as current issues in meadow management.
The program will be held in a series of three sessions at Batram’s Gardens (54th Street and Lindbergh Blvd., Philadelphia).
Session 1: April 16, 9 am – 12 PM Intro to Meadows
Learn about the importance of native meadows and our role in restoring them. Then dig in to help plant native wildflowers and install bluebird boxes! This event is planned in conjunction with Love Your Park Day.
Session 2: July 9, 9 am – 12 PM Meadow Fauna
Explore the rich meadow habitat and learn more about the animals that call the meadow home. A local bird and butterfly expert will join us for this summer session to discuss the powers of pollination.
Session 3: October 15, 9 am – 12 PM Meadow Flora
Get to know your meadow plants! Learn how to identify grasses and wildflowers commonly found in meadows and help collect seeds.
This program is appropriate for teens and adults. Participants should dress appropriately for working outdoors (layers and sensible work shoes are always best). Tools and supplies will be provided. Please bring a water bottle.
