Land Management Programs & Tools

Natural Lands Trust’s land management staff is recognized nationally as one of the best in its field. Each member of the land management staff must maintain a strong general knowledge of natural resource management, as well as in-depth expertise in a specific area.

This focus on management expertise means that we have many tools available to us whether we're caring for our preserves or helping others manage their land.

Grassland Initiative
Native grasslands provide a number of ecological benefits in the Delaware Valley and may have been far more common centuries ago. We're working to establish these striking grasslands on many of our preserves.

Native Plant Promotion
Encouraging the growth of native plants on our preserves and their use elsewhere has become a major focus of our management efforts. Using natives has major ecological benefits.

Invasive Plant Management
The Delaware Valley is being over-run by non-native, invasive plants. Controlling them is imperative; otherwise they can out-compete other species and destroy native plant diversity in forests, meadows and wetlands.

Prescribed Fire
Fire can be a tremendous land management tool. Our land management staff is highly trained in using prescribed burning to control invasives and improve conditions for native plants.
